Advocacy

Our Approach

We strengthen the collective voice of nonprofit organizations to enrich the quality of community life throughout South Dakota. For Public Policy issues and initiatives, please contact us at info@sdnonprofitnetwork.org.

SDNN members have the opportunity to provide input and receive regular updates from our Lobbyist, Julie Johnson, regarding legislation that could affect the nonprofit sector.

Please take a few minutes to review our 2023 Public Policy Platform that has been formed by our members and adopted by our Board of Directors.

How To Contact A Legislator
During Legislative Session, a legislator can be reached at the Capitol through e-mail at the contact information listed here.

You may also mail correspondence to legislators. The proper way to address correspondence to legislators is as follows:

When contacting legislators, please follow these guidelines:

  • Identify your purpose in the subject line, the first paragraph, or at the start of the phone call. Include the bill number (e.g. HB 1234 or SB 234), if you know it.
  • Be specific and include key information, using examples to support your position.
  • Address only one issue in each communication and keep your contact short and on topic.
